Air Fryer Falafel Bites

Crisp, herby chickpea falafel made in the air fryer with no deep frying, golden outside and tender inside, served with a creamy tahini sauce.

Ingredients
- 400 g chickpeas, drained
- ½ onion, roughly chopped
- 3 garlic, cloves
- 20 g fresh parsley
- 20 g fresh cilantro
- 1½ tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- ½ tsp chilli flakes
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 3 tbsp wheat flour
- 2 tbsp olive oil, for brushing
- 4 tbsp tahini, for the sauce
- 3 tbsp water, for the sauce
- 1 tbsp lemon juice, for the sauce

Method

Pulse the falafel base — In a food processor, pulse the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, and cilantro until finely chopped but not pureed.

Season the falafel mixture — Add the cumin, ground coriander, chili flakes, salt, black pepper, and flour. Pulse briefly until just combined into a coarse, moldable mixture.

Shape the falafel patties — Shape the mixture into small patties or balls, about 3 cm wide. Brush lightly all over with olive oil.

Air fry until crisp — Arrange the falafel in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 200°C for 12-14 minutes, shaking or turning halfway, until crisp and golden outside and tender inside.

Make the tahini sauce — Whisk the tahini with the water and lemon juice until smooth and pourable. Serve the falafel warm with the tahini sauce.
