Brazil's national cocktail: muddled lime and sugar with icy cachaça, tart, sweet, and refreshingly strong.

Ingredients
- 4 lime, cut into wedges
- 8 tbsp white sugar
- 2½ dl cachaca
- 9½ dl ice cube
- 1 lime, thinly sliced, for garnish
- 8 tbsp fresh mint, leaves, for garnish
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 pinch salt
Method
- 1.
Divide the lime and sugar — Divide the lime wedges, white sugar, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt between four sturdy glasses.
- 2.
Muddle the lime and sugar — Muddle firmly with a pestle in each glass to release the lime juice and oils and dissolve the sugar.
- 3.
Add ice and cachaça — Fill the glasses with ice cubes, then pour the cachaça evenly between them.
- 4.
Stir, garnish, and serve — Stir well, garnish each glass with a lime slice and mint leaves, and serve immediately with a straw or short spoon.
