Crispy Fried Calamari

Golden, air-fried squid rings in a lightly spiced crust, served with fresh lemon wedges. A lighter take on the classic Italian starter.

Ingredients
- 500 g squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
- 2½ dl buttermilk
- 120 g wheat flour
- 40 g cornstarch
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Method

Soak the squid — Soak the squid rings in the buttermilk for at least 15 minutes to tenderize.

Coat in seasoned flour — In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Drain the squid rings and toss them in the seasoned flour, shaking off the excess.

Toss with olive oil — Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. Toss the floured squid rings with the olive oil to coat lightly.

Air fry until crisp — Arrange the squid rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until golden and crisp. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and parsley.
